Teen injured in accidental shooting

RICHLAND PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe teenager remains in critical condition after an accidental shooting in Richland Parish.

On January 1st at about 4:00 P.M., the Richland Parish Sheriff's Department received a call from Richardson Medical Center, reporting a gunshot victim at the emergency room.

A Preliminary investigation reveals 17-year-old Bobby Rogers was accidentally shot in the chest with a .22 caliber rifle.  According to the sheriff's department, Rogers and a teenage relative were "tussling" with the rifle.  The victim had the barrel in his hands and pulled it away from the other teenager, when it fired striking him in the chest.

The accident happened at the relative's home south of Bee Bayou. Rogers is in St. Francis Hospital in Monroe.
