I-20 Board holds first meeting in 7 months

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - In their first meeting in more than seven months, the I-20 Economic Development Board voted on several pressing matters.

First on tonight's agenda, was a private meeting of board members that lasted more than an hour and a half.

"Some of the members are new," says Otis Chisley, "and they need to have some information prior to going into open session."

Those new members are Rowena Sledge who was absent from tonight's meeting, and John Bryant who hit the ground running.

In the open meeting, officers were elected. Otis Chisley is now President, Charles Pritchard will serve as Secretary-Treasurer for another term, and new member John Bryant will serve as Vice President.

The board also elected Denman Engineering for a frontage road project between Garrett Road and the old Guide Plant - a project that's been on hold for several months.

"Now, if we're lucky, it'll take an engineer 4-6 months to develop a plan and maybe by sometime this summer we can actually get it bid and get work going on out there," says Pritchard.

Last vote of the night, almost $2.7 million to the Monroe Regional Airport to help pay for the new terminal.

"Really excited about having this meeting so we can move forward, and that's what everyone wants to hear in the city of Monroe... and that's what we are making an attempt to do," says Chisley.
