Baby has brain tumor removed

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News) - It has already been a rough start to the new year for 3-month-old Lakelyn Tool. Right before Christmas, Lakelyn became sick and the doctors found a tumor on her brain. And it's now a waiting game.

Lakelyn Tool arrived five weeks early and appeared to be in good health. But, the weekend before Christmas, Lakelyn became ill and was rushed to the hospital. That is when the family received some awful news.

"We did a CAT scan and MRI and Tuesday, Christmas Eve, we were finally told it was a brain tumor," Kristina Tool said.

Doctors quickly removed the tumor and found Lakelyn had suffered a stroke. Doctors say they are hopeful she will recover from the stroke, but the tumor is still in question.

"We are still waiting on pathology reports. St. Jude's is still on the table. We are just waiting," Kristina said.

Even though we don't know if the tumor is cancerous, we do know Lakelyn will be in the hospital for a while. Family friends have come together to help with the medical bills.

"You can donate by going to Region's Bank. We have an account in Lakelyn tool's name, she is the beneficiary and we have a Paypal account set up under Lakelyn's love," Jenny Boals said.

Friends of the family also set up a Facebook page to keep everyone updated on Lakelyn's progress. It received 800 likes in 24 hours.

Kristina says she and her husband Joseph are so thankful for everyone's support. She says they appreciate the prayers and Lakelyn feels them too.
