HARRISONBURG, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monday, Governor Bobby Jindal highlighted a nearly $36 million investment to replace a 71-year-old bridge in Catahoula Parish.

The Louisiana 8 Ouachita River Bridge in Harrisonburg was built in 1932 and needs to be replaced due to its age.

The bridge serves 1,600 motorists each day, and is mainly used for local traffic, but also serves many farmers and 18-wheelers. Work is expected to begin by the beginning of February and scheduled for completion in the summer of 2016.

Governor Jindal said, "Investing in our infrastructure is critical because it helps to make our state more attractive for businesses that want to invest and create jobs for our people, but most importantly, it means we have safer roads for our families. That's why this investment is so important.  This bridge is over 70 years old and this investment will help improve the flow of commerce and help ensure our people have a safe route to travel."
