Getting in shape for the New Year

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Fewer than one out of ten people who make a New Year's Resolution end up successfully completing it by the end of December. Going to the gym is one of the most popular goals people make.

David Bryant is one of millions who has found himself in the gym ready to lift the weight of the world while dropping some pounds.

"My New Year's Resolution is to come to the gym more often, more consistent. I'd like to come four or five times a week and I got a goal of about 20 pounds to be lost by May," said David Bryant.

Bryant say's he can reach his goal by taking it one step at a time. He also has some motivation and he isn't alone.

"My wife and I are going to the beach this summer and we went a few years ago. I saw some family photos, not so pleasant so hopefully this year I'll look a little bit better," said Bryant.

"I was always small guy going to school, in high school getting picked on all the time," said Kendall Guice.

Kendall Guice retaliated by picking up weights and following through with his New Year's Resolution he made ten years ago. Instead of losing weight he wanted to bulk up.

"When I started out I weighed 110 pounds and then I just slowly started training hard, intense training. Currently I'm at 170 now so it's been a tough road but it pays off," said Guice.

If going to the gym is your New Year's Resolution it doesn't matter how much you can lift or how long you can ride these bikes.

Bryant says he's not going to get anywhere if he doesn't try.

"To start would be the first thing. To want and have the desires is fine, but to actually get up and go do it, that's where it counts," said Bryant.

One day and one machine at a time could help our new year's resolutions and our dreams come true.
