Hospitals give shots for food

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News) - Glenwood Regional Medical Center and the Monroe Surgical Hospital partnered up to knock out two birds with one stone: influenza and hunger.

If you wanted a flu shot, all you had to do is bring one can of food to the surgical center and you would get a flu shot.

And a steady line of people flowed through the doors, with can in hand just to get a shot.

Dee Smith said they have enough shots for 200 people.

"We have been very busy. We had people here before 9 a.m. If there is anyone interested. We definitely recommend it for them," Smith said.

They were also handing out hand sanitizer, to help combat the flu.
