Blue Star Mothers give surprise Christmas present to West Monroe family

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Friday night the Blue Star Mothers, a group of parents of military men and women, gave one family in the Twin Cities an early Christmas.

As the mother to soldier who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving his country, there's a special place in Jill Puckett's heart for military families. Monday, she contacted the Blue Star Mothers about the Willey family in West Monroe.

"They're the people we need to get a hold of if any body needs some help," says Puckett.

She wanted to make sure the family had gifts under the tree, and that night, U.S. Army Veteran Chris Willey took his own life, leaving his wife and two children behind.

Fortunately, after four days of planning and some generous donations, the Blue Star Mothers surprised the family with Santa in tow.

"It's hard to put in words what this feels like," says Santa Claus.

"Doing this tonight here, means everything," says Puckett, "to see the children here, what they've been through, and what they're going through, means a lot."

Showered with gifts and love, the family had no words but "Thank you" and "Merry Christmas!"
