BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has filed a lawsuit against Festiva Hospitality Group for unfair and deceptive practices in connection with its points-based "vacation club."

In a news release Tuesday, Caldwell said the lawsuit alleges that Festiva sold Louisiana consumers "points" for membership in a vacation club that could be used anytime at various Festiva resorts around the country. But, he says consumers found out - after signing a 40-year contract - that it was impossible to book a vacation because of the lack of accommodations.

Caldwell says more than 98 consumers filed complaints about the Orlando, Fla.-based company.

The lawsuit asks the court to cancel the contracts, award civil penalties and reimbursement to consumers and to enjoin the company from engaging in deceptive practices.

Festiva couldn't be reached for comment.
