KAPLAN, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - State police have arrested an off-duty, part-time Gueydan Police Officer on charges relating to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and other narcotics.

Troopers arrested 26-year-old Kenneth Martin of Abbeville for a traffic violation in Kaplan.

During the stop, officials said troopers observed marijuana inside of the vehicle. Martin was placed under arrest and a search of his vehicle was conducted. Troopers recovered about one half ounce of marijuana, 19 hydrocodone pills, a semi-automatic handgun and an opened bottle of liquor.

Martin was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on Thursday.

It was unclear whether Martin has an attorney.
