LAFAYETTE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The two suspects in the 2010 death of a University of Louisiana at Lafayette student will be tried separately next year.

State District Judge Marilyn Castle on Thursday granted a motion filed by Wayland Guillory's attorney, Amos Valex Jr., to sever his case from that of a second suspect, 24-year-old Ian Trahan.

Both men were charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for the October 2010, beating death of 20-year-old Kenny Donnelly.

Authorities believe the two men attacked and beat Donnelly and his roommate. Donnelly's roommate survived.

Both suspects have denied involvement in Donnelly's death.
