Salvation Army distributes Angel Tree donations

Posted: Updated:

RAYVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Today, parents and guardians stopped by the Rayville Civic Center to pick up toys. Toys many of them may not have been able to afford otherwise. Thanks to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, more than 100 families will have a better holiday season.

This year, Roughly 200 kids from Richland and Franklin parishes will have the toys they wanted for Christmas.

Anthony Kelly picked up some toys for his three kids. He said two of them wanted bikes and the other just wanted some toys.

Jerry Williams with the Salvation Army said the program is more than just about toys. He said the angel tree program is about the meaning of Christmas.

"These angel tags equal one child and these tags are distributed throughout the community. Someone in the community can go and pull a tag and shop for that angel and today is the distribution of that angel," Williams said.

And Kelly said he is very thankful for the donations.

"I'm pretty excited. It saved me a lot of money and I thank the people who put in on this to help the kids and help them have a good Christmas. It's a blessing," Kelly said.

Kelly says he can't wait to see his kids light-up on Christmas morning. He says it is a feeling he can't describe.

The Salvation Army only distributed to the rural outreach portion of the Angel Tree program today. They will help many more kids in North Louisiana this holiday season.
