Helicopters and extrication, all in a days work

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Usually Greg Hill is in his Monroe Fire uniform ready to respond to whatever situation he is dispatched to but Thursday the role was reversed.

"It was very closed quarters in their and a lot of noise going on" says Hill.

Hill is a paramedic with the Monroe Fire Department but today he was the patient as his coworkers teamed up with Air Evac Lifeteam to practice procedures and communication for trauma certification.

"Its very important to coordinate with the local fire departments because we like to make sure we have a team approach with these situations and that we are all on the same field and thinking the same thing" says Brandon Foshee with Air Evac.

The emergency responders from Monroe and surrounding parishes worked with the Air Evac team in the classroom learn different patient care methods.

Then later were put into real life situations like vehicle extrication to put their skills to work.

And for hill he learned something he could have never learned without today.

"From the rescue aspect after twenty years it really opens your eyes to different things when you actually have a live patient and it's a live extrication drill" says Hill.

And the over 50 attendees lefts armed and ready for any trauma situation they may come across on the job.
