LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Electric utilities in Arkansas are reporting that more than 35,000 customers are without power and officials expect continuing wintry conditions to cause more damage.

Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative of Ozark had 15,300 customers in the dark at mid-morning Friday, with freezing rain and sleet continuing to fall.

Entergy Arkansas, the state's largest electric utility, reported 10,300 outages. More than 6,000 of those outages were in Pope County.

Entergy has 1,400 customers out in Craighead County and another 1,000 in Mississippi County.

In western Arkansas, Southwest Electric Power Co. reported 9,800 outages, down from 12,000 earlier in the day. The majority of those outages are in Polk and Sebastian counties.

Before the foul weather struck, Entergy warned customers that some could be without power for up to a week.
