USDA Agents make multiple raids

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News) -  In a story we're continuing to follow, on Wednesday, federal agents swarmed multiple locations in Ouachita Parish. But right now, nobody is really saying why they were here.

It is an intense scene at a home on Moore Road in Monroe. It was Thursday afternoon when about 50 USDA agents swarmed the property, pulling out box, after box, of files. When we confronted them at the home, we were ignored and left with no answers.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agents searched Brown's Grocery and Deli on Old Sterlington Road, as well as Dee's Grocery on Renwick Street.

When we went to find answer, we were met with signs that said closed. All lights were off and no one was at the stores.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell said his department was asked to help with the search warrants on the grocery stores.

"The nature of the investigation of the USDA, we really don't know, we really can't comment, but I think some boxes and files were taken," Russell said.

While we don't know what is behind the raid, or if there's a connection between the raid at the two stores and the home, we do know one arrest was made.

While searching Brown's Grocery, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Marshall Donell Brown, a clerk. He was charged with possession of marijuana, Illegal possession of stolen things, and illegally carrying a fire arm.

Brown is facing state charges but not Federal charges tonight.

Back on Moore Road, the USDA Inspector General's Office says it will neither confirm, deny or discuss any investigation.

Calls were even made to the U.S. District Attorney's Office, but they weren't returned.

We're continuing to make phone calls to federal officials and will have more information as soon as we can gather it.
