Baker's husband arrested in deadly arson case

GRETNA, La. (AP) - The husband of a woman suspected of intentionally setting a deadly fire at her Gretna bakery in June has been arrested on a charge he lied to investigators.

72-year-old Miguel Martinez was booked into jail Thursday on a charge of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

His wife, 41-year-old Lesly Martinez, was booked in July on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated arson after a June 21 fire at Lesly's Bakery killed her alleged accomplice, 40-year-old Marta Alvarado-Lopez.

A Gretna police official says Miguel Martinez lied to investigators when he denied knowing anything about his wife's alleged plans to torch her business to collect insurance proceeds.

Lesly Martinez allegedly told police that she and Alvarado-Lopez were burned while baking bread and cookies.
