WASHINGTON, D.C. (KNOE 8 News)-The sound of McAllister loafers on the marble floor is a sound Congressman Vance McAllister is still getting use to walking to his office in the House of Representatives formally occupied by Rodney Alexander.

"Rodney's football helmets were gone but it didn't take long for my family to re arrange my furniture when ever they came in" says McAllister.

Thursday morning before being sworn in McAllister was presented with his name plaque making reality set in.

But for Congressman McAllister this was his first time to Washington and his first time in his new office but luckily it wasn't the first time for his Chief of Staff Adam Terry.

"We showed him where the light switch was literally" says Terry.

"Now for congressman McAllister this isn't just an office or just a desk its a piece of history" says reporter Hilary Hunt.

"there is a picture taken in this office that I put up in the window of President Gerald Ford when he was in and this office,Cannon 316 was his office but obviously the plant isn't still alive but the walls are still here and I think its pretty dog-gone cool that im sitting in the same office as a president that you find statue downstairs of" says McAllister.

for now McAllister is still the new kid on the block and he says that doesn't intimidate him.

"but there is one thing all will learn about ole Vance McAllister... Their is nothing I am scared of whatever I can do to help and whichever way I can help im here for the people" says McAllister.

He says he as already begun that work for his people, the people of the 5th district.
