RICHLAND PARIH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - On November 22, 2013, at 6:10 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 20 west of US Highway 425.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1991 Dodge truck, driven by 58-year-old Lorenzo Navarro of Winnsboro, was traveling west on Interstate 20 when it lost control and drove off the left side of the road into the median. The Dodge traveled through the median and into the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 where it was struck by a 2007 International truck, driven by 26-year-old Eugene Combs of Oak Ridge.

Navarro was not wearing a seat belt. Navarro suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner's Office. Combs was wearing a seat belt, reported only minor injuries and was transported to Richland Medical Center.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver's attention away from the road and reduce speed when driving in hazardous weather.

Troop F has investigated 42 fatal crashes which have resulted in 50 deaths so far this year.
