5th District Congressional debate at ULM

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The two candidates for the 5th Congressional seat faced off in their last debate before Saturday's election.

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce and other sponsors invited the public to ULM's Student Union to hear from Neil Riser and Vance McAllister. Sue Nicholson, President for the Monroe Chamber of Commerce served as moderator for the debate.

Both candidates were asked a series of questions, and given the chance for a rebuttal. The two republican candidates agreed on many subjects including the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, but they disagree on how easy that might be.

"I think it can be repealed, if we can put a man on the moon, we can certainly repeal a bad piece of legislation," says Riser.

"I'm not going to stand here, and lie to you and tell you I can repeal it because I'm one of 435 votes but I will give my vote to repeal it when it comes up," says McAllister.

The run-off election is Saturday, and for all your election coverage and results, watch KNOE 8 News or stay updated online at www.knoe.com.
