Update: Names released in four fatal crash

CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Update: Louisiana State Police report the fourth person involved in the crash on Highway 165 has died.

Louisiana State Police released the names of the four victims killed in the crash. The preliminary investigation reveals a Hyundai, driven by 23-year-old Allen Atkinson of Grayson, was traveling north on Highway 165 when for unknown reasons it  crossed the grassy median and struck a Toyota, driven by 55-year-old Bertha Griffin of Columbia, that was traveling south on US Highway 165.

Atkinson and the passenger in the Hyundai, 21-year-old Seth Shipp of Columbia, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Bertha Griffin and the passenger in the Toyota, 60-year-old Donald Griffin, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. All four were wearing their seat belts. 

Alcohol use is unknown. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Three people are dead and one other person is said to be in critical condition, following a wreck involving two cars in Caldwell Parish.

It happened about one mile north of Columbia, shortly after 2 P.M. on Tuesday.  The Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office says a fourth victim that survived the crash was taken to Citizens Medical Center in Columbia.

So far, there's no word on the cause of the wreck.  The names of the victims have not been released. 

Louisiana State Police is investigating.
