UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A high-speed chase ended with a Bernice man booked into the Union Parish Detention Center. He's accused of aggravated flight, resisting an officer, simple obstruction of a highway and no license plate light.

25-year-old West McCuller Baldwin, of Double Bridges Road, was booked early Saturday morning. His bond was set at $3,300.

Sheriff Dusty Gates says when a patrol deputy attempted to stop the pickup Baldwin was driving he sped away running several stop signs and reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle chase ended on La. Alternate Hwy. 2 when the suspect abandoned his pickup in the highway and ran into a wooded area. Gates said the deputy called for a K-9 unit and a search began for Baldwin.

Deputies reported the K-9 tracked the suspect to a thicket and deputies called out for him to surrender. While coming from the thicket, deputies told the suspect to show his hands, but he would not until the K-9 handler threatened to release the dog.
