Monroe voters to consider 3 tax renewals

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Monroe voters will be asked to consider three property tax renewals November 16 to provide funding for public safety, drainage and recreation maintenance.

Early voting for the Nov. 16 election begins Saturday and runs through Nov. 9.

The combined property taxes bring in $1.6 million annually.

All three are 10-year renewals of property taxes already levied on Monroe residents.

Monroe Director of Administration David Barnes said residents who own a $100,000 house can expect to pay $425 over the 10-year period if all three taxes are renewed.

Mayo stressed the tax renewals are not new taxes and all three provide vital revenue for the city.
