Monroe airport passenger use up

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Monroe Regional Airport has continued to increase its passenger traffic each year since the new terminal opened in 2011.

The increased passenger traffic is due to several factors including the decrease in the price of fuel and tickets and more people choosing the newer airport over other regional airports.

From January to September the airport had 85,532 passengers. That's 10,000 more passengers over the same time period in 2012.

Mayor Jamie Mayo said Monroe is the hub of northeastern Louisiana and he's proud to see more people arriving at its airport, which he considers the "welcome mat" of the region.
