OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - An Olive Branch Boy Scout troop is hoping to raise enough money from containers placed at local businesses to buy two bullet-resistant vests for police K-9s.

The youth fanned out last week to the businesses after labeling the plastic containers with an announcement of the fundraiser.

Fourteen-year-old Destin Fox says he didn't really know much about the role police dogs have in the community but he's learning now.

Jenny Wildes, who works at Olive Branch Animal Clinic, came up with the idea of enlisting the boys with fundraising for the dogs. The clinic has treated the Police Department's various dogs over the years.

Each vest costs $850 to $1,000.
