"Shifting the Paradigm" Features More Than 75 Thought Leaders Speaking on Innovative Education
HILLSBOROUGH, Calif., Oct. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Educators and innovators from around the country will convene today on the campus of The Nueva School in Hillsborough, California to discuss and share ideas about many of the most challenging and critical issues facing education as part of the biennial Innovative Learning Conference (ILC).
The conference is organized by The Nueva School and features lively discussion among internationally preeminent speakers, scholars, educators, parents, community members, and students. Topics at the 2013 conference include strands on:
A complete list of the more than 75 speakers and information on the discussions they will lead may be downloaded from the conference website at www.nuevailc.org.
"This conference offers a forum for many of the world's foremost scholars to share current research and for respected educators to demonstrate best practices," Nueva Head of School Diane Rosenberg said. "This year's theme - Shifting the Paradigm - expresses The Nueva's School's belief that contemporary education is more prepared than it has ever been to embrace the skills students will need for their future."
Nueva hosted its first conference in 2007 when Diane Rosenberg and a small team of parent volunteers gathered thought leaders in support of one of the school's founding missions, known as Mission II, which seeks to share and broadly disseminate insights from innovative institutions with the broader educational community.
Since then, ILC has grown to feature more than 75 speakers and attracts approximately 1,000 attendees from around the globe.
"ILC is fortunate to have the commitment and participation of nationally recognized speakers who present by invitation only in support of the conference's outreach mission," ILC Committee Co-Chair Karen Pace said. "Registration fees are kept low to increase access and encourage participation, and financial aid funds made it possible to provide more than 55 scholarships to professional educators who otherwise would have not been able to attend."
"Nueva and the Innovative Learning Conference are especially lucky to have the time, talent, and support of an incredible group of committed volunteers composed of current Nueva parents, alumni parents, community education leaders, and Nueva faculty and staff, who make the ILC conference possible every two years," Pace said.
The Nueva School provides an inspirational learning environment on its Hillsborough and San Mateo, California campuses to unlock the passion, purpose, and potential of individual students and local communities. As a nationally recognized preK-12 independent school, Nueva emphasizes integrated studies, experiential learning, creative arts, STEM, design engineering, and social-emotional learning. Since 1967, the school has remained true to its founding mission to inspire a passion for lifelong learning, foster social and emotional acuity, and develop the student's imaginative mind.
