Students react to GSU football controversy

Posted: Updated:

GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Rocked by the ongoing controversy, Grambling State University is still uncertain about this weekend's game against Jackson State University.

On Thursday (Oct. 17), students weighed in on the university's football players refusing to attend practice.

"I don't think unless someone was physically abused ... nothing someone can tell me could not make play football," GSU student Sir Williams said. "You know what you sign up for. So if it is a problem that someone told you …you need to get over that. I think it was a cowardly act."

Student Bionca Goul said she hoped for the best.

"I think it was very sudden, but they have their reasons," Goul said. "Hopefully they are heard and we can move forward ... and continue and have a great season."

Football is not the only controversy GSU currently faces. Some alumni groups want to remove President Frank Pogue from office for what they call "failed leadership."
