UPDATE: All SNAP EBT card services restored in Louisiana

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – The state Department of Children and Family Services reports that all services have been restored.

"The multi-state system outage, which began at approximately 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, was the result of a technical issue and was not connected to the federal government shutdown."

While transactions were impacted by today's outage, the systems that DCFS uses to track EBT card usage and identify fraud were still in place.

The state goes on to say: "DCFS vigorously investigates all fraud claims. Anyone suspected of fraudulently using public assistance benefits are investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The public is encouraged to report cases of suspected SNAP fraud by calling the DCFS toll-free hotline at 1-888-LAHELP-U and selecting option 7 from the main menu or by visiting www.dcfs.la.gov/ReportFraud."

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – The state Department of Children and Family Services reports that some services have been restored.

"The contractor that maintains SNAP EBT services for the state of Louisiana has informed DCFS that some store systems that handle EBT transactions have returned to service. The contractor expects additional stores to do the same in the next few hours."

Previous story:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – The State Department of Children and Family Services has released a statement regarding the nationwide EBT outage, ensuring that the problem is temporary and not related to the government shutdown.

"The company that maintains SNAP EBT card services for the state of Louisiana is currently experiencing multi-state service problems. Retail SNAP transactions are impacted, but the company is working quickly to restore service. This issue is temporary and not related to the federal government shutdown."

Previous story:

The Electronic Benefits Transfer System (EBT), or food stamps, is down nationwide.

Reports from around the country began pouring in around 9 a.m. on Saturday that customers' EBT cards were not working in stores. A manager at Brookshire's in Monroe reports that all the area grocery stores' EBT systems are not working.

CBS reports that this glitch in the computer system did not appear to be part of the government shutdown. At 2 p.m., an EBT representative told CBS Boston that the system was currently down for a computer system upgrade. She could not say when officials expected the system to be restored.
