Dog finds his way home after 5 years

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News)- Everyday Melissa Sims comes home and her dog Roo is looking for her but for the past 5 and a half years that search has been the other way around.

"I walked around the streets and I was on my knees in the middle of the street. He was taken from Stella Street I was on side streets on my knees crying" says Sims.

Roo is now 11 but was six years old when he went missing from owner Melissa Sims' apartment off Stella Street.

But she and her daughter were determined to find their family pet.

Three days ago Sims daughter was on the lost and found of Ouachita Parish when she saw a dog that had to be him.

"He's got a scar across his nose where he had it and when you look at him my girls always said he had eyes in the back of his head and there are still two dots on the back of his head" says Sims.

Sims picked him up and check him for marking that he had and surely enough it was Roo.

Even after 5 and a half years the day he came home even Sims mother said she knew it was him.

"I had to see it for myself and when we got there the day my grand daughter had him he knew me he immediately jumped up on my leg" says Judy Christy.

A great ending to a long and exhausting search.  Proving once again a dog always finds it's way back home.
