TALLULAH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Bald eagle was hit in Madison Parish, but luckily it survived.

Scott Matthews with the Wildlife and Fisheries Department says someone noticed the bird near Interstate 20 and called in.

He sent an officer out, who found the eagle on the side of the road, still alive.

A story on Facebook originally reported the bird had been hit, and incorrectly spread information that because of the government shutdown, no one would respond to help.

However, the Wildlife and Fisheries Department is a state agency, and isn't being affected by the issues in Washington right now.

Matthews says an officer was on scene within 10 minutes of the call.

The eagle was sent to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, but there is no word on its current condition.
