Brittany Crenshaw's alleged killer out of jail

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - An ArkLaMiss family is in shock, after the man charged with the murder of Brittany Crenshaw is out of jail on bond.

When Brittany Crenshaw went missing in August 2012 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, it didn't take long for her mother, Gina Moore, and friends to point the finger at Brittany's fiance Benjamin Davis, who she had only known for a few months.

It only took a few days once the investigation started, and Brittany's body was found, for police to charge Davis with her murder.

Davis was booked into Forrest County Jail in Mississippi with bond set at $1 million, and that was the last Brittany's family heard, until a few weeks ago.

"Ben's out of jail, and I called (Gina Moore) and was just like no, no," says Chelsea Smith, one of Brittany's close friends.

After two requests for bond reduction, Davis's bond went from $1 million, down to $100,000. Meaning after paying the ten percent required, Davis is out of jail, for $10,000.

"I had Brooklyn (Brittany's daughter) the night we found out, and I was just scared for us. I don't know him, I don't know how crazy he is, I'm still scared," says Kaci Crenshaw.

Family and friends are planning a memorial event for Brittany next month, and are afraid of who might show up.

"What am I going to do if he shows up and says hey, what would my reaction be, what would any mothers reaction be if someone was to murder their child, then get out of jail, and show up," says Moore.

Davis is charged with homicide in Mississippi, but has not been indicted. Investigators say once they gather all the evidence possible, then an indictment will be set, until then, Davis is out of jail.
