UPDATE: John Meade, 33, of Spearsville, was arrested in Malvern, Arkansas Wednesday afternoon as he got off a bus. UPSO is currently filing warrants on the following charges: domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, home invasion with child endangerment and unauthorized use of a stolen pickup from his employer.

Previous Report:

He is being returned to Union County, Ark. Where he will be held on a failure to appear warrant until formal charges can be lodged against him.

UPDATE: The manhunt for John Meade, 33, of Spearsville, has been suspended. UPSO will now issue warrants for his arrest on charges of home invasion, domestic abuse battery and felony theft of truck.

Previous Report:

UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A manhunt is underway on the Louisiana-Arkansas line for a Spearsville man who forced his way into his estranged wife's home, then drove through a police road block.

It all started around 5 P.M. Tuesday. Union Parish Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint that John Meade had forced his way into a house where his estranged wife was living in the Spearsville area.

UPSO Chief Deputy Dusty Gates said Meade entered the house through a bedroom window and attempted to detain the wife inside, but she managed to escape.

Meade, 33, then reportedly took a truck from his employer and drove it to El Dorado, Arkansas. Authorities there received a call about a possible drunk driver, and when located, he refused to stop. Union County sheriff's deputies and Arkansas State Police chased Meade down U.S. 167 toward Louisiana.

Gates says Union County Sheriff's Deputies and Arkansas State Police set up a road block and  the truck driven by Meade kept going. He said shots were fired by law enforcement to disable the vehicle. The shots caused the truck to stall out just over the state line into Louisiana.

Gates says Meade then ran into a wooded area where he is being sought by Arkansas and Louisiana officers.

Meade will face home invasion, domestic abuse battery, felony theft (the truck) and possible other charges in Union Parish. Meade, who is a registered sex offender, also will face charges in Union County.
