ANGOLA, La. (KNOE 8 News) – A driver is arrested after trying to break into the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.

At 2:34 Sunday afternoon, a vehicle driven by Floyd Tillman approached and retreated from the gates of Angola. Correctional officers working the gates say the car then crashed through the perimeter gates. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle by firing shots.

The vehicle was pursued by Louisiana State Police until almost 3 pm, when the chase ended in a head-on collision on the levee around the prison.

No injuries were reported from the shooting, and no life threatening injuries occurred in the crash. Police discovered that Floyd Tillman had two small children in the car with him. Tillman was taken into custody by the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office.  Warden Burl Cain says the prison is secure at the time, and an investigation into motive behind the incident is on-going.
