Notes about the Wossman Wildcats

They Move the Chains: Sophomore Cameron Lewis leads the Wildcats under center this year. The young new quarterback has good size at 6-2, 185-pounds and can really sling it. Head coach Dale Zimmerman says they want to roll him out of the pocket to find open receivers. His best friend this year will be Brandon Martin. He caught 27 balls last year and at 6-4 gives the Wildcats a big target. Allowing the two playmakers to connect will depend heavily on an offensive line that returns all five starters.

Blitz Patrol: Only three starters return on defense, but there will be no bigger holes than the one left by the two Marshall boys. Lee and Keith were All-State honorable mention players in 2012. Head coach Dale Zimmerman says they have plenty of holes to fill, but the linebacking corp should be strong.

Cleats to Fill: RB Ladarrius Franklin and his 1,300 yards rushing will be missed. A committee of backs look to make up for those lost yards. Alfred Rayford, Anthony Wheat, and Montrel Hester will split carroes to start the year.

Unsung Hero: Brandon Martin has what Coach Zimmerman calls "super potential." He is an all-around athlete that is a leader on both sides of the ball. "He's our playmaker and our five big boys on the offensive line will make him even better," Zimmerman said.

Ace Watch: It's hard to not say Brandon Martin here. This guy has the speed and the raw talent to be something special if he can make the most of his opportunities. Also expect Alfred Rayford to emerge as the number one running back. His five returning offensive linemen can propel him to a big night on the ground and a new t-shirt. Zimmerman's pre-game speeches are must see tv. Expect to hear plenty of his passionate pep talks this year on the Wendy's Friday Night Blitz.

National Ink: It's a young team and nobody has a profile on Rivals yet, but Martin has the prototypical size to play at the next level. If he has a big year, his mailbox could fill up.

Must-See Matchup: Carroll and Wossman meet up in week two for the Baby Bayou Classic. The Bulldogs will be out for blood this season as the Wildcats won 26-6 last year.

Postseason Prospects: A three-game losing streak late in the season hurt 4-6 Wossman's chances of making the playoffs. They ended up missing the postseason by a few points.Finding a few playmakers on defense and adding depth behind them will be key to returning to the postseason.

Coach Talk: "We started the spring earlier than most people. We had a spring game to see how our guys competed against each other, hoping people will step up. It [the postseason] is depending on our quarterback. That and adding depth. D-E-P-T-H, depth. Our numbers are not what we need right now, so we need guys to step up and fill rolls. If we get good quarterback play and our guys don't get tired late in the game, we could have a good football team."
— Wossman Coach Dale Zimmerman
