Notes about the St. Frederick Warriors

They Move The Chains: Eight offensive starts are back including quarterback Seth Christian. The 3-year starter is explosive with a little "wiggle" to his game. Christian will have two nice targets in Daniel Ellender and Patrick Kelly. A committee of backs will "tote the rock" for the Warriors. Freshman Ron Morris (5-9,165) is one of the fastest kids on the team and gives St. Frederick a "home run" threat on every carry. Senior De'Mone Jones and Sophomore Jack Turner will see plenty of touches. Center Cole Swanner will anchor the offensive line and should open up plenty of holes. TE Payton Braswell (6-2,190) is a good looking athlete who will move the chains for St. Frederick. Look for the Warriors use an up tempo, no huddle attack that should keep defenses off-balance.

Blitz Patrol: MLB Will Daniels returns and is ready to be "the glue" that holds this unit together. Daniels (6-1,205) missed a majority of last season with a shoulder injury. His return gives the Warriors a defensive playmaker that opposing offenses will have to game plan for. Junior Brock Bryant is an outside linebacker who runs well and is a good open field tackler. Patrick Whipple and Matt Minninger are being counted on to make plays on the defensive line.

Unsung Hero: Senior Mitchell Webb will wear many hats for the Warriors this season as he will see playing time at OLB and RB. Coach Jeff Tannehill calls him an important piece to the St. Frederick puzzle.

Ace Watch: Christian will have the opportunity to add another aces award to his collection. With a stable of running backs, look for one of them to put up a "big night" and put them in position to race away with the honor.

Must-See Matchup: A week one matchup against an athletic Madison squad will put the Warriors to the test right out of the starting gate. St. Frederick will also be playing up in class as they tangle with Grant, Caldwell and Vidalia. November first is a date the Warriors have circled on their calendars as they travel to the defending 1A state champs OCS.

Postseason Prospects: Following a 7-4 season, the Warriors are anxious to get back into postseason under a new coach. Veteran Jeff Tannehill moves into St. Frederick with 16 years of experience. The former Neville assistant also has head coaching experience at LaSalle as he was named the Cenla coach of the year in 2003. For Tannehill's first season to be a success, the Warriors will have to avoid the injury bug. With just over 40 athletes on the roster, St. Frederick can not afford to lose one of their top playmakers.

Coach Talk: "Making the playoffs is our number one goal. We are going to be put to the test early with the schedule and I am anxious to see how we respond. Billy Bell did an outstanding job with our strength and conditioning program as a result we had a record off-season. The hard work we did in the off-season will pay off in the fall."
— St. Frederick Coach Jeff Tannehill
