Notes about the Richwood Rams

They Move the Chains: The Rams offense returns seven starters with junior quarterback David Allen running the show. The athletic quarterback is at his best on the move so look for the Rams to roll him out as much as possible. Senior tailback Michael Tankchell sat out last year and is hungry to get back on the field and take his game to the next level. Senior offensive guard Jonathan Garrett has great feet and is critical to the running game. All three players will be vital in the Rams game plan as they go to scrap their spread offense for more of "ground and pound" attack.

Blitz Patrol: Richwood's defense returns five starters from last season. Senior defensive end Nathan Criff is the guy other teams will have to gameplan for. With his speed, Criff has the ability to run down ball carriers. Look for senior linebacker Xzerrion Penn, junior linebacker Deangelo Gibson, and junior safety Donyea Walker to have big seasons.

Cleats to Fill: The Rams have to replace linebacker Jared Dunn who signed with ULM. Safety Roderick Ross will also be missed as he plays at ball at Northwestern State. Senior Donyea Walker will have to step in for Ross . Xzzerion Penn and Deangelo Gibson are being counted on to replace Dunn's athleticism and leadership.

Unsung Hero: Tailback Michael Tankchell has the potential to be a breakout player. Coach Robert Arvie says when Tankchell was a freshman at Ouachita, the lions coaching staff thought he had the potential to start. If Tankchell blossoms, the Rams running game could be dynamic.

Ace Watch: Senior DB/ WR Dylan Williams is a 3-year starter and is ready for the KNOE 8 spotlight. Williams is not afraid to go in traffic to get the ball and will be counted on to move the chains. In third and short situations, Williams will be the Rams main target.

Must-See Matchup: Union Parish and Richwood have developed a nice rivalry in short span. The week ten matchup has the potential to be another barn burner. Union Parish has won the last two district championships, but the rams believe that streak ends this season.

Postseason Prospects: The Rams finished last year 4-6 and missed the playoffs. After watching tape from last year, former Woodlawn head coach Robert Arvie says the rams lost some games they should not have. With Arvie calling the shots this season, Richwood plans to keep the postseason formula simple. Run the football, tackle on defense, and avoid mistakes on special teams are the keys to a winning season. Arvie expects his Rams to work hard every day, focusing on the game in front of them, and they'll see where that takes them.

Coach Talk: "Run the ball and stop the run and you'll win more games than you'll lose."
— Richwood Coach Robert Arvie
