Notes on the Lake Providence Panthers

They Move the Chains: The Panthers return six starters from last season. Junior WR/RB Jhlil Richardson and junior WR/RB Carlos Mosley will split carries in the backfield. The Panthers will interchange players at the skill positions. Quarterback A.J. Bruce will direct the panthers spread offense.

Blitz Patrol: The Lake Providence defense also returns six starters. Junior linebacker Donald Hampton is an aggressive player who has a nose for getting to the football. New Coach Dwight Woods says Hampton's mentality will help the entire defensive become more aggressive. Junior safety Devante Morant will go get the ball and will be a force in the secondary.

Unsung Hero: Some young players have the potential to emerge as playmakers for the Lake Providence. Coach Woods says 12-15 freshmen will have a chance to step-up and make big contributions to the Panthers.

Ace Watch: QB Bruce is the spark plug for the offense. Coach Woods says he has the ability to run and is developing into a better passer. He is a kid who always wants to improve and learn the game. The coaching staff encouraged Bruce to watch film and learn from his mistakes from last season. The panthers coaching staff believes that film study will payoff in a big way for Bruce this season.

Must-See Matchup: Week 6 vs. Winnfield is the game to see. Coach Woods says they've been a state power for years and if the Panthers can beat them, the panthers program will be back on the football map. Lake Providence fans are also looking forward to games against Oak Grove in week eight and Madison in week five.

Postseason Prospects: The 3-7 Panthers missed the playoffs last season, but a new coach is hoping to lead them back to the postseason. New coach Dwight Woods has been in the business for 15 years and has scraped the panthers old system. He says the Panthers success will depend on how quickly the players can adjust to the learning curve. Woods says they need to be disciplined, play within themselves, and play within the system.

Coach Talk: "The thing is once the kids learn our offensive and defensive system it's easy for them to learn it. We are teaching them the basics of the system with what routes they are supposed to run and how plays are designed. It is not too complicated and the kids should pick up on it quickly" — Lake Providence Coach Dwight Woods
