OPSO deputy saves choking toddler

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Ouachita Parish Sheriff Deputy is receiving praise for saving a child on Monday.

Deputy Rodney Pagans was on an investigation in the 600 Block of Smith St. in West Monroe, LA. While there, a mother came outside holding her 2 year old girl who was choking on an unknown object, disabling her from breathing.

Deputy Pagans took the child from the mother and performed a maneuver dislodging a glass marble enabling the toddler to breathe again. Emergency services were called to the scene to check the toddler and then was released her back to her mother.

Sheriff Jay Russell says he was happy that Deputy Pagans used quick action in rendering aid to help save a child's life.
