Update: List of Parishes/Counties under burn bans grows

(KNOE 8 News) - Morehouse Parish is joining numerous other parishes and counties banning outdoor burning as of Friday, September 6th.

Morehouse parish issued its burn ban effective Friday morning.

Lincoln, Caldwell and Franklin Parishes all issued burn bans on Thursday 9/5/13.

They join Jackson, Richland, Union, Winn and West Carroll Parishes.

In Arkansas, Union and Ashley Counties also have burn bans in place.

The bans are due to the extremely dry weather conditions. All bans are in place until further notice.

Reggie Oswalt told says people who burn trash in the parish sometimes let their fires gets away from them. Oswalt, with Bossier Parish Fire District 1 in Haughton, says some are unaware of signs posted in and near Haughton warning against burning trash or brush.

A map posted by the state Office of Forestry shows 14 parishes where burn bans are in effect as of Friday: Caddo, DeSoto, Sabine, Bossier, Webster, Red River, Natchitoches, Winn, Jackson, Union, Caldwell, Richland, Franklin and West Carroll.
