E.A. Conway Medical Center transition

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – The E.A. Conway Medical Center is in the middle of a big transition. More than 500 people work there and have had to re-apply for their jobs. Our Nolan Crane updates us on how the transition is going.

Wilma Davis has been working at E.A. Conway Medical Center for the past 25 years. Her co-workers are a part of her family.

"I grew up here at E.A. Conway. I came straight out of school and came straight here and I've been here ever since," said Wilma Davis.

Starting in October the state of Louisiana will no longer be in charge of the daily operations. They have given that responsibility to the non-profit organization Bio Medical Research Foundation Hospital Holdings to help the center be more efficient.

"We are reconstructing the entire hospital from the leadership down," said Cathleen Hernandez.

The huge transition scared some of the employees because they all had to re-apply for their jobs. A background check and drug test were also performed.

"Initially everything was stressful because you are afraid of the unknown," said Beverly Lewis.

The transition just doesn't affect the employees. It's also going to affect patients and they say it's in a positive way.

"I think it is going to be much better. We will be adding services," said Davis.

Consultants and members of human resources say the goal is to keep all of the employees who wish to stay and simply update their records.

"We have employees that have been promoted, we have employees that have taken positions in different departments and overall 100 percent of them are being interviewed," said Hernandez.

Although current employees are being looked at first, the human resource director says the medical center will have to hire at least fifty additional employees to increase the care patients receive. That makes employees like Wilma Davis Happy.

The drug and background screenings should be done next week. Workers will be re-hired if they pass. The medical center will start taking applications the week of September first for new hires. When it is time to apply you will be apply to do so using this link.
