UPDATE:

JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A contractor killed in an accident Tuesday at the RockTenn paper mill in Hodge has been identified.

Deep South, a company the contractor was working for, confirmed the victim as Marks Harold Parrott of Ruston. Funeral arrangements have been set at the North Crossett First Baptist Church in Crossett, Arkansas, Saturday at 2.

Parrot died after he and two other workers became trapped inside of a tank on Tuesday. The other two victims were treated and released earlier this week, their names have not been released. The cause of the accident is still unknown and under investigation.

Previous story:

According to RockTenns Communications Director Robin Keegan the cause of the accident still isn't known.

"As to the cause of the accident we are in the process of conducting an investigation we are working very closely with the contracting companies with required authorities and we are in the process of making that determination at this point" says Keegan.

Keegan says the accident very disconcerting and that RockTenn hopes a tragedy like this will make everyone double check their safety procedures.

Previous story:

KNOE 8 News has learned that one of two workers cleaning out a tank at the RockTenn plant in Hodge did not make it out of the tank alive. A third contract employee, inspecting the work, was also injured.

Two of the three contract employees involved in Tuesday's accident worked for Deep South. The third worked for Pulp Mill Contractors.

According to Deep South Spokesperson Dewey Seymour, his two contractors were inside a tank in the mill cleaning it out. One of the Deep South workers came out of the tank with burns. That worker was taken to the hospital in Jackson Parish. Seymour says the second Deep South worker did not make it out and died in the tank.

An employee with Pulp Mill Contractors, was also sent to LSU Hospital and is in ICU with burn injuries. Pulp Mill Contractors Spokesperson Ronnie Marsh says the employee was inspecting the tank and fell into what is called "black liquor."

The names of the workers are not being released. RockTenn has issued no statements regarding what happened at the mill.

Previous Report:

JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - UPDATE: We now know that there has not been an explosion at the RockTenn paper mill in Hodge. However, we are told that three contractors for the mill fell into a tank around 10:00 Tuesday morning.

What is inside the tank is unknown. According to City of Hodge Chief of Police Johny Shively, two of the victims have been taken to Jackson Parish Hospital and are suffering severe injuries.

A helicopter was called to airlift the victims elsewhere. Efforts are still underway to retrieve the third victim from the tank.

Hodge Police say the public is not in danger and the incident has been contained. Original reports indicated there had possibly been an explosion at the plant.

Previous report:

Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown confirms that emergency crews have been sent to the RockTenn (former Smurfit-Stone) paper mill in Hodge.

KNOE has been told there has been a possible explosion within the facility. We have contacted the mill but they will not comment on any injuries or the extent of damage to the plant.

Reports from those on the scene indicate as many as three people have been injured and some of those have been airlifted for medical treatment.

KNOE 8 News has a crew en route to Hodge and will have updates throughout the day on KNOE.COM and during KNOE 8 News at Noon, 5p, 6p and 10p.
