ALEXANDRIA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Rapides Parish has received one of 68 grants nationwide from the U.S. Department of Labor to assist in training and employment services for at-risk youth.

The $651,845 grant will fund Youthbuild program services in the parish over the next three years.

Youthbuild is a community-based alternative education program for youth between the ages of 16 and 24, who are high school dropouts, adjudicated youth, youth aging out of foster face, youth with disabilities, and other at-risk youth populations.

The Department of Labor is providing 75 percent of the program cost. The 25 percent local match was provided by partnerships with Central Louisiana Technical Community College and the Rapides Habitat for Humanity.
