MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) - A Port Allen man is in custody in Avoyelles Parish after he allegedly tried to run over sheriff's deputies and then led officers on a vehicle chase that went through two parishes.

The Town Talk reports 45-year-old Kenneth Adams was arrested early Friday in Point Coupee Parish after the chase.

He later was transferred to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office Detention Center (hash)1 and booked with two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated flight from a police officer, obstruction of justice, driving under suspension and possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

The incident began when deputies confronted Adams on the parking lot of a Simmesport business when they suspected he was about to make a narcotics transaction.
