KINDER, La. (AP) - State police say a Kinder man was killed overnight in a vehicle crash in Allen Parish.

The accident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday on Lauderdale Woodyard Road north of U.S. Highway 190.

Sgt. James Anderson says a pickup driven by 18-year-old Joshua James McGrit of Oberlin was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility pole on the passenger side.

The passenger, 25-year-old Christopher Anny, was pronounced dead at the scene. McGrit was taken to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries.

Anderson says McGrit was released from the hospital Friday morning and was booked into the Allen Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, DWI, careless operation, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
