Low Cost Spay and Neuter Center Opens Soon

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - PAWS of Northeast Louisiana is dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats in our area, one pet at a time.  A new low-cost spay and neuter service center, located just off Highway 165, south of Monroe is ready to open.
PAWS member Stacey Choate:
"Our goal is to spay and neuter about 6000 animals a year to greatly reduce the pet overpopulation in this area.  If each animal that we spay or neuter had five puppies or kittens a year...that's 30,000 animals that will never be born to end up in shelters or on the street."
The center will target low income families that may not be able to afford to spay and neuter a pet, but will be open to anyone in the area.
"Starting at about $40, depending on the size of your pet, whether it's a cat or dog will determine the price, but it will be a lower cost."
There is one key element that is missing right now.  And the group is searching nationwide for a person needed to run the service center.
"Right now the building is complete, all we need is a vet."
PAWS has contacted LSU and other veterinary schools across the south and also placed the opening on job posting sites.  Once a vet and staff is hired, the center will offer services to area animal shelters and the general public.
