MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - An elderly Mississippi man killed in a fiery wreck on Interstate 20 has been identified.

Louisiana State Police say 81-year-old Otis Mecom of Gulfport died last Wednesday night, after his car was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Carlton West of Bossier City.

Both the car and truck burst into flames.  West was able to get out of his truck.  Mecom was not able to get out of his car and died at the scene.

West, 18, was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on a negligent homicide charge.

Police say impairment is not suspected in the crash.
