Miss La. to show off fashions on Saturday

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The Miss Louisiana Organization and the University of Louisiana at Monroe invite you to the annual Miss America Style Show featuring Miss Louisiana 2013, Jaden Leach on Saturday, August 24th at 2:00 pm at the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.  The style show will give Jaden an opportunity to showcase her wardrobe selections and talent before leaving for the Miss America Pageant.

Leach, a West Monroe High School graduate and University of Louisiana at Monroe Senior majoring in Political Science plans to obtain a family law degree following graduation. Jaden currently serves as the spokesperson and ambassador for Louisiana's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Louisiana Cares for Children and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.  She is also the official Hostess for the State of Louisiana.  Jaden's platform – Children at Risk – has given her the opportunity to speak in schools, civic clubs and churches across the state.  The past 2 months have been filled with appearances, as well as preparation for the Miss America Pageant which is returning to its home in Atlantic City on September 15th at 8:00 pm live on ABC.  "Jaden has worked very hard preparing for the Miss America Pageant and is prepared for every phase of competition.  We are proud of her accomplishments and look forward to great things at Miss America."  stated Dewana Little, Executive Director of the Miss Louisiana Organization.   

The Miss America Pageant will be held at the famous Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City New Jersey, September 10–15 .  Each contestant will compete in Interview, Evening Gown, Swimsuit, Talent and On Stage Question.  Preliminary competition will be the 10th, 11th, & 12th and the live televised finals will air on ABC on Sunday, September 15th.  Miss America will also host the famous "Show me Your Shoe" Parade on the historic Atlantic City Boardwalk on Saturday, September 14th where over 200,000 people are expected to attend.  For more information about the Miss America Pageant and how you can attend, please visit www.missamerica.org.

    Baton Rouge, La. (KNOE 8 News ATC) - Agents with the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control recently conducted compliance checks at 173 businesses in the Monroe and West Monroe areas. During those compliance checks, 28 of the businesses, which consist of area restaurants, bars and convenience stores, were caught selling alcohol and tobacco products to minors.
