UPDATE MONDAY NIGHT

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A leaf blower, a weed eater, along with two motorized saws are all back where they belong after someone tried to steal them Monday morning.

"He took off running, so I chased him down so I can call the police," Monroe homeowner Andrew Hill said.

Hill doesn't want his identity revealed on video after being targeted in a burglary.

Monday morning, a man in Bayou Desiard, Joseph Miller, is accused of going into Hill's backyard hungry to steal, but stopped in his tracks.

"After he swung at me with the weed eater, I took that pool stick and hit him with it and he hollered," Hill said.

Police say Miller had hopes of walking away with some lawn equipment, but he was caught in the act and his buddy bailed on him in the getaway car.

"I heard it crank up, pull off and take off," Hill said.

Police, by boat, took Miller out of Bayou Desiard. Hill says he chased him several blocks away from his home on Baker Street, to the bayou. Along the way Hill suffered a toe, ankle and knee injury.

"He jumped over before me and ran toward the lake and jumped in," Hill said.

It's believed a hole in the fence and an open pathway in the backyard may be to blame in giving criminals a closer look at some of the pricey lawn equipment.

"I'd notice when I be out here, a couple people peeking through the fence," Hill said.

The suspect is charged with attempted theft.

Hill says the equipment that caught the eye of Miller carries a $1,600 price tag.
