Bossier Parish gives superintendent a $50K raise

Posted: Updated:

BENTON, La. (AP) - The Bossier Parish School Board has approved a $50,000 pay bump for Superintendent D.C. Machen.

The increase brings Machen's annual salary to $180,000 - up from $130,000 he's earned since taking the position in 2009.

The board also agreed to extend his contract through December 2016 and will pay him a monthly car allowance of $1,000.

The Times reports that before Thursday's action, the superintendents' salaries in nearby DeSoto and Bienville parishes far exceeded that of Machen. Cade Brumley earns $167,000 annually in DeSoto, while Bill Britt brings in $163,294 in Bienville.

Machen's new salary puts him second in pay in the area, with Caddo Parish Superintendent Gerald Dawkins drawing $202,000.
