Mayo's attorney speaks out about new I-20 Board city laws

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The mayor of Monroe is preparing to see four council members in court again. The city leader and his attorney are getting ready to meet. Mayor Jamie Mayo says all council members, except Councilwoman Gretchen Ezernack, may be in contempt of court. This after there were two new veto overrides at the last meeting, regarding the Interstate 20 board. Attorney Charles Kincade says he along with his client, clearly understood the court's ruling.

"It seems to us and any fair reading of it that Judge Ellender's order was very clear," Kincade said. "It wasn't vague or confusing. It was very explicit. It appears to us that they violated that."

Kincade says this is not the first time the council has been in contempt of court. The lawsuit stems from the heated battle over the I-20 economic development district.
