1 dead in early morning crash

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - On August 15, 2013, at 2:55 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 425 north of Bastrop.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 23-year-old Derek Kilcrease of Hamburg, Arkansas, was traveling north on U.S Highway 425 when it ran off the right side of the road, drove back onto the road before running off the right side of the road a second time and overturned.

Kilcrease was not properly restrained and did not report any injuries. The rear seat passenger, 23-year-old Heather Aulds of Hamburg, Arkansas, was not properly restrained, suffered minor injuries but refused aid. The front seat passenger, 20-year-old Christopher Savage of Hamburg, Arkansas, was not properly restrained and was ejected. Savage suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office.

Impairment is suspected. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. Kilcrease was charged with vehicular homicide and simple criminal damage to property and was booked in the Morehouse Parish Jail. If convicted on both charges, Kilcrease faces up to a $16,000 fine and up to 30 years in prison. The crash remains under investigation.

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Morehouse Parish Sheriff officials say one man is dead in an single vehicle accident that took place on Highway 425 just south of the Arkansas state line early this morning.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff Deputies and Morehouse Sheriff deputies searched for the wreck after a 911 call came in saying that a wreck had happened between Sterlington and Bastrop on Highway 165. However, after the search deputies found that the wreck actually happened on Highway 425.

Sheriff officials say that three people were in the car, and that the 2 others in the vehicle sustained no injuries.

They also say all involved are from Arkansas. Alcohol and speed are expected as a contributing factor to the accident.

The Louisiana State Police is now on the scene investigating the accident. There's no word yet on any charges or citations.
