Crossfit honors members of the military

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - At more than 500 Crossfit locations including Monroe, members of the military who paid the ultimate sacrifice were honored. Our Nolan Crane shows us why some athletes view Navy Seals as heroes...because of their toughness and physical and mental strength.

Logan Cloessner is just one Crossfit athlete who is climbing rope in remembrance of the soldiers who lost their lives. Every year members of the military die but the people working out here says the group of 31 was different.

"The fact that they were Navy Seals and we try to emulate that. That is a lot of the moves we do," said Logan Cloessner.

Every crossfit in the country, more than 500 locations are honoring the navy seals by the number of reps they do which corresponds to the date they died. August 6th, 2011.

"Eight thrusters, six rope climbs, and eleven box jumps," said Adam Parsons.

The Crossfit workouts are intense and for a lot of people they can't do them. They say that's the point in honoring the military, because it's something hard.

"This workout is extremely intense because it is 31 minutes of non-stop work," said Parsons.

For the Crossfitters like Cloessner, showing their respects today by completing the "31 Heroes Workout" helps them understand the sacrifice not only of the men who died but also that of his brother.

"My brother is in the military and he has been in Afghanistan and Iraq probably five times or six times. For me today it was about coming out here and trying to do something and kind of give back and something that has meaning. I think as normal citizens I guess we don't really understand what happens over there and the dangers that they are really in so just to give a little piece back means a lot to me," said Cloessner.

Not everyone was able to finish the workout but now they appreciate the work of those soldiers, even more.
